Back in Christchurch we prepare for the onward journey.

After being patched up in the hospital, we once again rode the TranzAlpine. We took the train to Christchurch so that Bicyle Business can take care of our tandem there and we have more options for planning and further travel.

In the meantime our tandem is repaired. Fortunately only the front rack, the shifters and the rear gears had to be replaced.

All in all, extremely little has broken on us and our equipment. The only piece of equipment (besides clothes and helmets) with a total loss was a $5 calculator. We were extremely lucky!

Our wounds are healing well and we are getting more mobile every day. Regarding wound treatment we almost feel like guinea pigs, because every nurse tries different plasters and bandages :-)

Besides getting healthy we try to plan our further journey. Since it is not easy to transport a tandem by bus, we will most likely go south with a rental car and from there we will go back north with the tandem.

With the pictures below are still two accident photos of a photographer of the local newspaper.
