After our vacation in Bavaria, we took another three-day trip with the tandem club.

With 10:00 as the start time in Aarau, we had enough time for the journey and so we changed already in Schönenwerd from train to tandem, where we drove along the Aare to Aarau. There we paid a short visit to the agency.

From Aarau station we started with 5 tandems southwards through the Wynental. Until the lunch break at the schoolhouse in Gontenschwil we mainly rode on bike paths and small side roads. Freshly strengthened and rested, we continued in the afternoon via Mullwil and Schlierbach into the parallel Suhrental. After the relatively flat route in the morning, the approximately 200 meters of elevation gain, which in addition had to be mastered in the afternoon heat, were the most strenuous section of the day.

On the descent into the Suhrental, Marianne and Heini unfortunately had a broken spoke on their tandem. Since it was a wheel with only 14 spokes, this was of course worse than a wheel with 36 or more spokes. Accordingly, we then chose a route to Zofingen that was as gentle as possible.

In the beautiful youth hostel we were cordially received. After checking into our rooms and showering, we had a barbecue in the garden.

After dinner we went for a walk through the beautiful old town of Zofingen, where we enjoyed ice cream at various places.

After a rich breakfast on Sunday morning, the weather was unfortunately not as good as the day before. So we spent the time with reading and playing board games until the weather improved. While some of us looked through the window to see if the rain had already stopped, others swore by smartphones and apps to determine the local weather :-)

After we all agreed that the rain had stopped, we drove together towards Oensingen. As the day before, we were able to enjoy small roads with little traffic and also race against hyperactive dogs for once.

At a forest edge after Kestenholz we made then a lunch break, where already again first raindrops landed. But then we could start again without rain and drove via Bannwil back towards Zofingen.

But since the weather deteriorated further, we decided to forego additional elevation gain from Murgenthal and to take the fastest way back to Zofingen. Shortly after Murgenthal, really heavy rain reached us, so that we had to look for a dry shelter at short notice. Fortunately, the rain ended as quickly as it had come, so that we could then continue a little later without rain gear.

Since we were back in Zofingen earlier than planned, we took a very small restaurant in the old town, where we strengthened ourselves with ice cream and cupcakes.

On August 1, we drove to a farm in Boningen for breakfast. After a hearty brunch, we headed south via Vordemwald and Pfaffnau on a slightly uphill main road with little traffic. From Roggliswil we climbed steeply up to over 700m, where we then had a well-deserved lunch break. After a quick descent to Grossdietwil, the route climbed steeply to Gondiswil. From there on it was mostly downhill to Langenthal, where the tour weekend ended. Despite the not only excellent weather we could enjoy well planned tours on these three days. Many thanks to the organizers Claudia, Bernt, Ursi and Philippe!

In Langenthal, however, tandem riding was not finished for everyone... so we preferred to drive home in wonderful weather via Herzogenbuchsee, Koppigen and Kirchberg.
