With "light" luggage over the hills.

In the remaining days in New Zealand we can of course not sit around in Christchurch and "only" visit museums and prepare the return journey....
So we decided to lightly load our tandem and the trailer once again to go to Akaroa. First we went up to the Port Hills, then nice and flat along the Little River Rail Trail and afterwards again steep over the hills to Akaroa.
For the way back we chose the somewhat longer and steeper way over the volcano crater rim which surrounds Akaroa. The way was much steeper than expected! But there was extremely little traffic and we could enjoy a beautiful view despite the not very good weather.
After the return trip via the Little River Rail Trail we drove over the Gebbies Pass to Diamond Harbour. From there we took the ferry to Lyttelton and returned to Christchurch via Sumner.
The whole thing was our last big tour in New Zealand and with the 7h20 long return trip (excluding breaks) also the longest daily stage that we drove here.
